Transport Planning and Management
The Subject Group of Transport Engineering is Shanghai Maritime University’s advantage discipline. As the second-level subject under the firs-level discipline of Transport Engineering, the subject of Transport Planning and Management started to offer master-level education since 1981. It was approved as key discipline by the Ministry of Transport of China in 1997, was entitled to confer PHD degrees in 1998, was approved as a national key discipline (under cultivation) in 2007, and was approved as a key subject by Shanghai Municipal in 2008.
For a long time, the subject of Transport Planning and Management focuses on the research and study on the major theory, technology and management problems in the fields of shipping and port. Significant research achievements and remarkable social and economic benefits have been made.
At present, a total of nearly 30 professors and associate professors working for the subject, many of whom are renowned in society and play an active and important role in a number of academic and industrial organizations.
By building the national engineering centers and the key laboratories of transport industry, which are capable of undertaking basic and applied research and are closely related with the construction of China’s shipping industry and the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, the subject, in future, aims to achieve worldwide-recognized leadership in scientific research and talent training through innovative and original achievements, and eventually build itself into an internationally advanced national key discipline with shipping characteristics.
