On the morning of June 25th, 2023, the international students from the College of Transport and Communication at Shanghai Maritime University, embarked on a study trip to DSV's warehouse located in Shanghai Yangshan Free Trade Zone. The trip was led by Dr. Wang Qin from the Department of Logistics Management and Dr. Fu Qiang from the Department of Transportation Management (Shipping).
DSV is a global leader in transport and logistics, offering a comprehensive range of services to clients worldwide. The company specializes in air, sea, and land transportation, as well as contract logistics and supply chain solutions. With a strong presence in over 80 countries including China, it holds several warehouses located across the mainland. DSV has established itself as a reliable and innovative partner in the industry.
The students were given a tour of the warehouse and had the opportunity to see firsthand how the company manages its operations. A brief introduction to the company and its operations delivered by the manager Mr. Feng preceded the tour. During the tour, the students were impressed by the level of organization, automation and technology applied in the warehouse. They saw how DSV uses advanced racking and computer systems to manage inventory and streamline its operations. The students also learned about the company's commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
Overall, the study trip was a valuable learning experience for the students. They gained insight into the logistics industry and saw how a global company like DSV operates on a day-to-day basis. There was an interactive session between the students, the representative of DSV and teachers during which some students ask questions about the industry, internships and job opportunities for students in the company. The trip provided an opportunity for the students to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations and gain practical experience that will benefit them in their future careers.
