A Short Course on Research Methodology

Name of the Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Rosario Macario

Learning outcomes:

In this PhD level course, students are expected gain awareness on the multitude of methods available for the various types of scientific research methods and methodology applicable to management science and related fields. This will then equip students with the knowledge to understand the research methods, to learn how to develop self-training and deepening in the different methods and select suitable types of research methods in their research study.

A main learning outcome of this course is to prepare and train the student in autonomous learning methods, giving the students the skills and competencies to develop research in an autonomous way

Learning Objectives of the Course:

To understand:

-the differentiation between the fundamental research methods, and their strengths and weaknesses when applied to real world problems;

-the system thinking framework, process and compositional approaches for research design, including the identification of research questions and the formulation of hypothesis;

-the utilization of multi-methodologies to approach complex problems with quantitative and qualitative methods;

-an effective and rigorous communication of scientific results to skilled and non-skilled audiences.

Provide students with the technical skills to:

-Organize a research process;

-Choose the adequate method for the research envisaged;

-Analyse real world problems and develop formulations and solutions supported by scientific methods
