This presentation will introduce two high-impact projects that we recently completed for Illinois Department of Transportation. We will share our experience on how to apply research results to change current engineering practices in highway design and traffic incident management. The two projects include two five-year studies on wrong-way driving crashes and countermeasures, and traffic incident management training programs in US.

Lecturer's profile: 

Dr. Huaguo Zhou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of Auburn University. He works in the area of transportation safety and highway design, and has published over 100 publications in various transportation research areas. He is an associate Editor of the Journal of Transportation ITE. He is a fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and a member of Access Management Committee and Automatic Transit System Committee of Transportation Research Board. He received two high impact project awards and outstanding research awards in recognition of his outstanding research achievements. Dr. Zhou received his Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in 2001, his Ph.D. and bachelor’s degrees from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China in 1998 and 1993, respectively. Prior to his current appointment at the Auburn University, he worked as assistant and associate professor at Southern Illinois University between 2008 and 2013. From 2003 and 2008, he was a senior research associate at the Center for Urban Transportation Research at University of South Florida.
