Professor Benjamin Heydecker, is Professor of Transport Studies at UCL, where he is responsible for research, graduate student supervision and teaching in quantitative and analytical areas of transport studies. This includes the analysis of multiple large databases and application of ICT to their management, advanced methodologies in design, management and control of transport networks, dynamic methods for transport planning, transport safety, and state estimation techniques. Heydecker is the Co-I of STANDARD, and the Co-I of two current EC FP7 projects: SafeTRIP (Satellite Applications for Emergency handling, Traffic alerts, Road safety and Incident Prevention), and NEARCTIS (Network of Excellence for Advanced Road Cooperative Traffic management in the Information Society) within which he was responsible for developing a harmonised research programme for cooperative ICT in traffic management and control against an increasing list of emerging objectives. Heydecker’s knowledge in transport modelling, statistics and network complexity, and his experience of developing and applying optimisation techniques in transport analysis and modelling will be particularly relevant to the process and objectives of the present research [Heydecker and Addison, 2011]. He has published over 100 journal and conference papers in these areas. He has served as associate editor of the leading Transportation Science and Transportation Research (part B, methodological) journals, is a member of the editorial boards of Networks and Spatial Economics, and Transportmetrica journals, and is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the ISTTT.
